'T' Space Reserve Tours during Archtober
About this Event
Guided Tours of the ‘T’ Space Reserve (Approx. 1.25 hrs)
Tours on October 4 and October 18 at 2 PM include the Architectural Archive + Research Library, Archive Gallery exhibition of ‘Threads” and the Ex of IN House. Reservations are required through Eventbrite. $25 per person.
Experience architecture as idea, object, and environment at the Steven Myron Holl Foundation Reserve. Guided tours offer visitors a rare opportunity to explore the Foundation's public architectural resources and current exhibition, where art, architecture, light, and landscape are brought into active dialogue.
The Steven Myron Holl Foundation Archive is one of the world's most comprehensive architectural resources open to the public. Part gallery, part library, and part evolving laboratory of design, it houses more than 1,200 architectural models, 4,400 books, 20,000 watercolors, furniture, drawings, and documents tracing contemporary architecture from 1977 to the present. Designed by Steven Holl Architects, the building itself embodies principles of light, movement, and ecological integration, incorporating geothermal systems, solar energy, and a green roof.
Visitors will then experience Threads: Anne Lindberg + H. L. Hix, an immersive, site-responsive installation created specifically for Steven Holl's light-responsive Archive Gallery. Thousands of suspended threads and luminous poetic text transform the gallery into an ever-changing environment of color, light, and language, inviting visitors to walk beneath and around the installation as it shifts with the natural light of the day.
The tour concludes with the acclaimed Ex of IN House, a 980-square-foot experimental residence and case study exploring inner spatial energy and the ecology of place. This experimental work of architecture offers a powerful synthesis of space, light, material, and sustainability embedded within the surrounding landscape.
