T-Rescue Course

Key objective : to train people to carry out T rescues in mildly rough water
The trainer is the person in the water and the trainee is in the kayak cockpit so the trainee is warm for most of the session. Only at the end will we ask the trainee to fall out and be rescued, and that's voluntary so that they can have that experience to inform their own ability to rescue others.
Key areas of focus:
Managing the swimmer around the kayak
Lifting the kayak onto the spraydeck
Holding the kayak on edge to support the other boat
Safety
We will reserve one trainer for safety
Towing
Ideally we would also practice putting a tow line on to take the kayaks out to protected water and also taking the kayak to swimmers who are separated from the kayak back to their kayak
