Sūkshma Vyāyāma (Classical Kundalini Hatha Yoga)
About this Event
A profoundly powerful system of activating and attuning the physical and subtle body. Sūkshma Vyāyāma was popularized in India by Dhirendra Bramhachari and transmitted by his student Reinhard Gammenthaler.Sūkshma = SubtleVyāyāma = ExercisesSūkshma Vyāyāma heals the body, mind and spirit and works with the ancient concept of awakening Kundalini as it was originally intended. This is real Hatha Yoga.
These exercises date back to Yoga as it was formulated by the Nath Sadhu Aesthetics, the originators of yoga. Dhirendra Bramachari is a a fascinating figure and very important in yoga history. In 1956 he published and documented these practices. He later became an important advisor to multiple generations of Indian Prime Ministers and his Yoga institute became the national institute for Yoga. in India Sūkshma Vyāyāma is widely taught in schools + on tv, through gov't funded yoga programs and is practiced in some form by millions. However, in America the Subtle Body component of Hatha Yoga has too often been left out or misunderstood. These exercises and techniques are applicable for all levels, and beneficial on all levels.
“Sūkshma Vyāyāma exercises contain the fundamentals of genuine Hatha-Yoga and should be practiced with the greatest care by everyone who wishes to follow the path of Yoga. Not only do these exercises teach the basic physical practices, like breathing techniques and locks (Bandhas), they also have a strong impact on the energetic system of the astral body (Sukshma-Sharira), which (according to the science of Yoga) is the basis of all material life. By working on the physical level, using breath and bodily postures, these exercises provide a profound means to unite both gross (material and subtle (astral) bodies, thus harmonizing the physical and spiritual levels of a human being. These exercises are very old and stem from a time when Yoga was a secret tradition, handed down orally or by spiritual transmission only from the Guru to appropriate disciples (Shishya), aiming at preparing the students for the path of Yoga. The exercises themselves require little physical effort or skill, but nevertheless have a deep, beneficial effect on the whole organism. They constitute an ideal and necessary preparation for higher Yoga and should be practiced by all who want profound and long lasting results.”- Reinhard Gammenthaler
