About this Event

Dear member,

We are pleased to invite you to the Aroid Society of Australia (ASA) Sydney March Meetup on Saturday, 14th March, 2026 at the Burwood Library, amphitheatre.

There will be giveaways, raffles, auctions and plenty of amazing plants up for sale.

is our guest speaker from the Sunshine Coast and will be giving a talk about Panama and Colombia - The Richest Diversity in Neo Tropical Aroids.

Hailing from the Sunshine Coast, Bruce is horticulturist who has worked in the local nursery industry for 40 years. He has 37 years of travelling with 40 plus trips through 15 tropical countries pursuing interests in Heliconia, Gingers, Bromeliads, Aroids and other rainforest monocots as well as an ever-expanding interest in other plant groups.

In the past couple of years he was featured in the book ‘Truth, Beauty, Chaos and Plants’ by Georgina Read AKA The Planthunter, appeared on Gardening Australia talking about Tillandsias and also appeared on ABC Radio Conversations telling stories of Heliconia Travels in Panama.

Popular Vote (show off your plant and you could win a voucher!)

The theme for the popular vote is “Your Best Pink Aroid". Members bring your favourite aroid for your chance to win. You must have owned the plant for at least 6 months to qualify. The crowd will pick their favourite aroid and the winner will receive an ASA voucher to spend on plants and merchandise.

Selling at the Sales Event

To ensure a fantastic sales event, we encourage attendees to also bring any aroids they'd like to sell on the day. It's a great way to make extra money, share your favourite plants and support the society.

Here are some essential things to know before you sell:

Only members can sell and only aroids are eligible for sale (potted plants, seeds and rooted cuttings).

Related products such as growing poles and nutrients are also eligible.

Arrive 30 minutes early.

Have a price list ready so you can complete the sales stickers to affix to your plants. The cost of sales stickers is $2/40.

Keep your bank account details handy. We'll need them to ensure we can pay you your earnings.

ASA charge a 10% commission on all successful sales.

RSVP'ing to the event

Want to come? Make sure you RSVP by signing up for a ticket on Eventbrite.

Non-members can become members on the day and offset the cost of membership from their purchased ticket.

Please note that photography and videography of the event will be taken and published publicly. You may opt out by notifying a committee member (designated by the blue ASA lanyards) at the beginning of the event.

If you have questions or requests regarding this event, or if you would like to volunteer to help out on the day, please let us know by replying to [email protected].

We hope to see you there!

Best regards,

The Aroid Society of Australia Committee
