About this Event
Join Blair Clark on a morning adventure to the Sweetwater Wetlands Park in Gainesville, with a lunch afterward at the Park (bring your lunch!).
The park, which consists of more than 125 acres of wetlands and ponds, was created to improve the water quality of wetlands in Paynes Prairie and the Floridan Aquifer.
Now a thriving habitat, Sweetwater Wetlands Park is filled with vast numbers of plants and animals, including birds, butterflies, and alligators. At the park, you can walk more than 3.5 miles of crushed gravel trails and boardwalks, experience the lush landscape from viewing platforms, and learn about the habitat through educational signs and tours. To read more about Sweetwater: check out this link.
Sweetwater is very exposed to the elements with basically no tree cover or shade. During the month of Febdruary, it could also be very cold or pretty hot out there, so be prepared for the weather!
Note that there is an entry fee to Sweetwater: $5 per car or $2 per person (bicyclists, pedestrians, buses), so bring some cash to insert into the payment box at the main parking lot where we will meet. Sweetwater is about a 2 and 1/2 hour drive from central St. Augustine.
SJRA members will have a priority on tickets for this limited ticket event. We encourage you to consider joining the SJRA. You can join for as little as $15/year, which will help us continue and expand our work. To join the SJRA, follow this link.
