About this Event
Dessert pies – everything from topless tarts to lattice-crowned fruit finales - have always had a revered spot on our holiday feast tables. Theres’s just one problem: Too many cooks suffer from crustophobia, especially when it comes to crafting gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free pies.
Two pie experts – Melody Hu and John Lehndorff – have teamed up for a tasty and entertaining new cooking class that includes demonstrations and a deep dive into the history and culture of pie around the world and in Boulder County. The event includes sampling numerous style and flavors of pies paired with appropriate beverages.
Melody Hu is an experienced pastry chef and caterer with extensive experience in cooking for special diets. She is the owner of Louisville’s Sweet Diplomacy Bakery.
Melody will demonstrate how to make great healthy crusts, fillings and pie toppings
and talk about choosing and sourcing ingredients.
John Lehndorff is a veteran local food writer and one of America’s foremost pie experts and judges. He has taught pie classes and written extensively about pie. He was the Chief Judge at the National Pie Championships. He is the former Executive Director of the American Pie Council, director of the Great American Pie Festival and spokesperson for National Pie Day.
John will talk about pie utensils, history, songs, and pie scenes in films and guide attendees through a pie judging experience.
