About this Event

Join us for an engaging session exploring the delicate balance of our local ecosystems and the innovative ways we can learn from and protect the natural world. This session will feature expert speakers on bats, insects, and homesteading, followed by a panel discussion with all three speakers to dive deeper into audience questions.

Our Speakers
  • Join Chris Alice “Alie” Kratzer to learn how some of our local insects fit into the broader ecosystem and how they serve as inspiration for breakthroughs in sustainable engineering. Alie is the founder of Owlfly LLC, a company developing cutting-edge sustainable technologies, including thermal insulation for buildings. She is also the author of The Cicadas of North America, available at the Frenchtown Bookshop.
  • Then, come along as we dive into the weird and wonderful world of bats alongside Alyson Brokaw, PhD.  Alyson is a researcher at Lehigh University with a passion for bats. Originally from Upper Black Eddy, PA, she has returned home after years of study to share her love for these fascinating creatures.
  • Last, listen in to Lindsay Nicole’s story of escaping an academic life in the city for a river town, and relishing the seasonal and daily routines of her homestead. Lindsay is a farmer and educator in Kingwood, NJ, where she and her husband run a five-acre homestead growing vegetables, flowers, and honey. She started her homesteading journey while living in the city and has since built a life deeply connected to nature.

Following the presentations, all three speakers will join for a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

All ages are welcome. Parking available at ArtYard parking location.
