“There are some stories that demand a certain season…”
Welcome to Chapter 2 of the Tale of the Cosmic Eggs by Surreal Sirkus. This is the story of the Green Egg, and it will be performed as an immersive theatrical production at the BeBe Theater in downtown Asheville on Dec. 20-21. Showtimes are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, as well as a matinee at 2 p.m. on Saturday, 12/21.
The show will also feature a variety of performances by members of Surreal Sirkus, as well as Toybox, America’s Favorite Cartoon Witch and evocative musical interludes by live looping artist Balm.

We began our year-long journey at Samhain with the Tale of Black Egg, which we performed at the Surreal Sirkus Arts Festival at Sly Grog Lounge. If you missed that show, you can catch up by watching the animated version at:

When last we left our story, the Efferlings, a race of highly advanced beings from a dying planet, had crafted a black egg-shaped vessel into which they encoded their most deeply held thoughts, as a sort of prayer sent out into the universe in the hopes that someone might find it…

About the Tale of the Cosmic Eggs:

The Surreal Sirkus embarked on this story in the aftermath of the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene on our town. When the storm came we were preparing for the annual Surreal Sirkus Arts Festival, and we had an entire show planned that suddenly was no longer feasible.
But stories have a way of taking on a life of their own, and this story wanted to be told in pieces over time. And so we set out on a great adventure, to tell those stories throughout the wheel of the year.
We are unfolding one part of the story on each of the eight traditional pagan holidays — the solstices, equinoxes, and the cross-quarter holidays between them.
We began on Samhain, or Halloween. And now we pivot to Yule, the Winter Solstice.
Each show will tell a different part of the story, and when we come together for the next Surreal Sirkus Arts Festival on Oct. 25, 2025, we will conclude our tale.
