About this Event
Supporting & communicating with Deaf people (British Sign Language users) with dementia
This is a new course to help you to understand and support Deaf people whose first language is British Sign Language who have dementia and how this affects them. The workshop will also give you an insight into how dementia affects Deaf people which is different to supporting those with acquired hearing and sight loss.
Learning outcomes
◗ Understand how dementia affects Deaf people
◗ Learn ways of supporting Deaf people with dementia
◗ Learn how to communicate with them
◗ Learn ways to ensure they are socially included.

FREE training courses for Personal Assistants, Communication Support Workers & Care Workers working for Direct Payment employers & users
The workshops will provide an overview on what is involved when communicating and supporting deaf & deafblind people to assist them in meeting their social care needs.
The courses are for:
◗ Personal Assistants (PAs) employed by individual employers e.g. Direct Payment employers or self-funded employers.
◗ PAs, Communication Support Workers, and Care workers who are paid privately by Deaf/Disabled people or who are Direct Payment or Personal Budget users.
*Please note that due to the nature of our funding, these workshops are not available to those employed by local authorities or to Personal Health budget users.
Direct Payment employers will be able to claim reasonable work and travelling expenses for their Personal Assistant(s) to attend one or more of the following workshops to help them develop their skills & knowledge. For more information, please email: [email protected]
