Please join us at Dissonant Works on Saturday, March 7 for SUN IN YOUR HEAD 2, featuring four films by Larry Gottheim. We will be playing two of Gottheim's early single-shot films, the transcendent "Fog Line" and one of my all time favorite films, "Harmonica," as well as two of his more densely edited 1980s works (completed after his Elective Affinities cycle), "Mnemosyne, Mother of Muses" and"The Red Thread." Films provided by Light Cone.
The night will feature an opening sound performance by Maureen Keaveny, whose visual art currently graces the walls at Dissonant Works.
"I felt that using my conscious mind to decide what film segment to splice onto other segments did not lead to what I was seeking. I began to be drawn to subjects that could produce developed works of art by letting the camera continuously film. The notion of the cut still haunted me during this period. The cut was always present by its absence. Later, beginning with 'Horizons' the cut and splice emerged from the shadows to become a significant concern of my work."
