Join us on Sunday 12th July 2026 for a Special Summer Edition of the Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club. It is an afternoon of wonderful music, social dancing, and traditional English tea dance hospitality in the heart of Oxford.
Consequently, it is time to look amazing in those summer dresses and holiday shirts as we celebrate the Great British Summer with a glorious afternoon of Jazz Swing and social dancing.
Please note that we have moved this one from the second Sunday in June (which it would normally be) to the second Sunday in July in order to accommodate everyone’s schedule.
You do not need to book in advance, simply come along and pay on the door. We accept cash, cards and contactless forms of payment.
Sunday Tea Dance Club History & Heritage
For nearly two years, the Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club provides dancers with a welcoming and relaxed opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of dancing in beautiful surroundings. However the tradition of Tea Dances in Oxford is much older with a rich and long history when Oxford Swing Dance used to run them.
Swing Dance Summertown is proud to carry on this tradition with the Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club. We hope you will join us because we have a great afternoon lined up.
Dancing at the Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club.
Whatever style of social dancing you are practices at, you will find a home for it on our dance floor. Our dance floor has seen Lindy Hop, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, Foxtrot, and even Quickstep. Jive also has found a home here.
We are always open to requests should we entertain anyone who would like a waltz or even a Tango. If you simply love great music and good company, this event offers the perfect way to spend a summer Sunday.
Our Venue & Dance Floor
Our venue is one of Oxford’s most charming dance spaces. The hall’s character and atmosphere make it feel perfectly suited to a traditional tea dance. Firstly, its excellent wooden dance floor is widely regarded as one of the best in Oxford. Secondly, throughout the afternoon, our DJs play a carefully selected mix of Jazz, Swing, Big Band, and dance classics designed to keep the floor busy and dancers smiling.
As always, refreshments are an important part of the experience. Guests can enjoy our popular tea dance buffet, featuring sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee, and squash, all included as part of the afternoon. The room will once again be dressed for the occasion with colourful fabric bunting, tablecloths, and fresh flowers, creating the warm and welcoming atmosphere that has become a hallmark of the Summertown Swing Sunday Tea Dance Club.
Whether you are a regular attendee or visiting for the first time, we invite you to come along, meet fellow dancers, enjoy a relaxed afternoon of social dancing, and celebrate the best traditions of the English tea dance with a distinctly Summertown Swing touch.
We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 12th July for another delightful afternoon of music, dancing, friendship, and refreshments.
Directions & Help Finding Us
If you are in Oxford and coming from the centre of town, there are quite a few buses that travel along The Banbury Road. They run pretty frequently. City2 buses (2, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D) all stop directly opposite the venue at the South Parade stop.
There are also buses that run from the The John Radcliffe Hospital from Headington. These run along Cherwell Drive before turning and heading up Banbury Road to Summertown. (700 and H2).
In all cases, alight at the South Parade bus stop. Portland Road is the turning on the opposite side of the street.
By Car
The Summertown Exit on the A40 provides a quick and easy way to drive down with the turning on the left as you approach The Summertown Shops. It also avoids the Congestion Charge. Look out for the Dancing Dragon Chinese Restaurant on your right and Portland Road is the next turning on your Left. This route also avoids congestion charges.
