Summer Scything workday

As part of the 'Orchard for Pollinators' Project we are running a programme of Orchard maintenance workshops and volunteer days across Bristol, Bath and South Glou. With the aim of recruiting and training up volunteers to have the skills to care for their local communtiy orchards.

For this session our Project Officer Janine, will deliver training in how to use traditional Scythes to carry out a hay cut on the meadow around the Orchard trees.

The day will consist of a training sessions and toolbox talk in the morning and practical work after, including raking and removing the cut grass.

The work can be quite physically demanding so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

All Health and Safety provison will be covered in safety briefing at the start of the session.

No skills or expertise required, all training, tools and PPE are provided. Please wear sturdy footwear and suitable outdoor clothing.I strongly advise wearing long trousers as we will be working in tall grass where ticks could be present

Bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.
