About this Event

Hike at Price’s Park
June 5 | 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Youth ages 8 and up are invited to join us for a day exploring the outdoors at Price’s Park along the Blue Ridge Parkway. This will be a fun day of hiking and enjoying the beauty of our local mountains. Please bring a packed lunch. This program is free.

Horse Camp with Lisa Deal
June 8–10 | 8:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m.
Youth ages 5–14 are invited to learn the basics of horsemanship in a fun, hands-on environment. Participants will gain experience with horses and build confidence through guided instruction. Cost is $60.

Gem Mining at Emerald Hollow
June 11 | 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Youth will enjoy a hands-on day of gem mining, including sluicing, digging, and exploring the creek. Each participant will receive a gem-enriched bucket and have access to tools and permits for all activities. Please bring a packed lunch. Cost is $20. Participants may bring extra money if they wish to purchase additional buckets.

Archery Camp with the Appalachian Aces
June 18 | 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Youth will enjoy an evening of archery, learning bow safety, shooting basics, and playing archery games! This camp will be led by our Appalachian Club members and volunteers who are all NC 4-H State Shooting Sports Certified. Cost is $25.

Art Camp with Debbie
June 23–24 | 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
For youth ages 12 and up (or younger participants with a mature interest), this camp will focus on creating a handmade scrapbook from start to finish. Participants will learn paper making, explore basic leatherworking and binding techniques, and design their own unique scrapbook cover. Cost is $15.

Digging into Dinosaurs: Cloverbud Camp
July 7 | 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Youth ages 5–9 are invited to dig into a fun day of dinosaur-themed learning and activities. Campers will explore fossils and enjoy hands-on discovery. Please bring a packed lunch. Cost is $10.

Garden to Fork Camp
July 9 | 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
Youth ages 5–10 will learn where their food comes from through hands-on activities. Participants will plant and take home their own small garden plant and explore the connection between gardening and food. Cost is $10.

Cloverbud Art Camp
July 16 | 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Youth ages 5–12 are invited to enjoy a fun day of sculpting and creative art activities. This camp focuses on hands-on creativity and artistic expression. Cost is $10.

Robots and Rockets
July 29-30 | 10:00 a.m.– 2:00 p.m.
Youth ages 10–14 are invited to come explore coding, robots, and model rockets. Please bring a packed lunch each day. Cost is $25.

Dog Days of Summer
July 13–14 | 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
Youth ages 8 and up will learn all about dogs from local professionals, including a dog trainer and veterinarian. Participants will also practice animal first aid and explore careers working with animals. Cost is $15.

Complete registration through this Eventbrite page to reserve your spots. Then, youth must enroll in 4-H, which is free to do, prior to the start of the selected program(s). To enroll, visit .

If you have issues registering on Eventbrite or enrolling in 4-H Online, please contact the Caldwell County Extension Center at 828-757-1290.

We strongly encourage that youth attend by themselves to get the most out of their learning experience. We do not have that much room in our learning space and invite parents who would like to stay to wait out in the hallway area or go upstairs and enjoy the library. We will be happy to work with you to accommodate your child's needs. Please submit accommodation requests related to a disability to the Extension Center at least three weeks before an event.
