The Sue Ferris Quintet has had a variable line up since it's formation around the turn of the century. They are all fabulous players, and the quintet has recorded a CD called “That Shoe String Thing” named in honour of the small budget Sue had available to record it! It was released two years ago in early 2024.

Sue has been playing saxophone and flute for over 35 years in a variety of settings. These include classical, musical theatre, rock and pop, but she feels most creative when playing jazz in a small group or big band. She came to college in the North East in the late 1980s and stayed put, raising a family, now all in their teens. In the meantime, she has played extensively across the North East and beyond with bands such as Voice of the North Jazz Orchestra (collaborating with the likes of Bob Mintzer, Andy Sheppard, Alan Barnes, John Surman and more), Strictly Smokin' Big Band, Northern Monkey Brass Band, Discography and many more! She has also played shows in many of the major theatres.

Sue teaches extensively in schools and also has been instrumental tutor for degree courses, workshops and various ensembles.
