About this Event
Front Porch History: Mapping Undiscovered Stories of Black Jacksonville is a research project that intersects with visual art. This interdisciplinary collaboration was formed to provide a therapeutic outlet for lovers of Black history and to make a demonstration against Florida’s HB7 also referred to as the “Stop Woke Act” which alters how Black history is taught in Florida schools.
Visit Studio 58 to meet the Black Jacksonville Collective: Dana Maule, Executive Director of Northside Pride, Kelsi Hasden, Founder of Be Rooted, Vic Alexander AKA Metmorphvic, and Sam Alexander and Larry Wakefield AKA DJ Larry Love of of Elevated Media.
This exploration of stories from our elders is the healing balm for our souls. We look back and look forward to map Black Jacksonville’s undiscovered history from people you may know and some you don’t. All of whom have made a deep impact on Jacksonville’s political, social and cultural identity. This exhibit isn’t just Black history, it’s YOUR history.
