As we roll through this historic corridor, you’ll be traveling in the footsteps of the Portland Traction Company’s streetcar line, which once connected communities in this region.

A Brief History of the Trolley Trail:
The Trolley Trail follows the historic right-of-way of the Portland Traction Company’s streetcar line, which operated from 1893 to 1958, connecting Portland to Oregon City through Milwaukie, Oak Grove, and Jennings Lodge. This electric interurban trolley was a lifeline for commuters and shaped the growth of these communities, fostering residential and commercial development along the corridor. Freight service continued until 1968, after which the line was abandoned. Since the 1970s, local advocates pushed to transform the corridor into a recreational trail. In 2001, Metro and the North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District purchased the right-of-way, and the Trolley Trail opened in 2012 as a 6.9-mile multi-use path, now part of a larger regional trail network connecting to the Springwater Corridor. As you hike, you’ll roll over a path that once carried electric trolleys, linking past and present in this vibrant community.
