About this Event
The Community Playback is a one-night-only celebration of story, culture, and community at Birmingham’s iconic Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame inside the Historic Carver Theatre. Taking place during the final weekend of the StoryCorps Mobile Tour, the evening will feature exclusive screenings of Brightness in Black stories—including never-before-seen Birmingham world premieres—followed by interactive community experiences and conversations in the lobby. Outside, the StoryCorps recording van will continue collecting stories throughout the night, giving attendees a chance to become part of the national archive themselves.
More than an event, The Community Playback is a defining moment for Birmingham. With the Carver marquee illuminated, the StoryCorps van on-site, community leaders and residents gathered together, and stories that celebrate the city's resilience and brilliance, this evening showcases Birmingham on a national stage and highlights the power of Black stories to inspire, connect, and shape the future.
