Storytime with John Parra

Award-winning author and illustrator John Parra will share his vibrant new picture book, Viva Venezuela!, a heartfelt celebration of Venezuelan culture, community, and the traditions that bring families together.

In this warm and colorful story, a young boy journeys through the music, food, art, and memories of his family’s homeland—each page offering a sensory-rich glimpse into the pride and joy of Venezuelan heritage. Through lively illustrations and poetic storytelling, the book honors identity, family roots, and the beauty of embracing where you come from.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Nathalie Alonso is a Cuban American bilingual writer and journalist based in Queens, NY. A seasoned baseball reporter, her writing has appeared in National Geographic, Outside, and Refinery29, among other outlets. She is currently a reporter and producer at MLB.com’s Spanish-language sister site, LasMayores.com. Call Me Roberto! was her debut nonfiction picture book.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

John Parra is a celebrated Latino artist, illustrator, and educator whose award-winning work has appeared in children’s books, galleries, and museums across the country. Known for his vibrant folk-art style, Parra’s stories spotlight Latinx culture, history, and everyday life, bringing authenticity and heart to young readers everywhere.
