Story Explorers featuring Perfectly Made by Heather P. Binns & Carter Binns
About this Event
Join The Black Archives for a special Story Explorers event featuring a live reading and author talkback with mother–daughter duo Heather P. Binns and her 6-year-old co-author Carter Binns, creators of the children’s book Perfectly Made: A Faith-Based Children’s Story about Identity, Confidence, and Self-Love (available on Amazon). Families are invited to gather for an engaging, kid-friendly storytime that encourages young readers to embrace who they are and see themselves as wonderfully “perfectly made.”
Following the reading, Heather and Carter will sit down for an interactive Q&A designed with children and caregivers in mind. Kids will have the chance to ask questions about the book, the writing process, and what it’s like to create a story with your mom (or your child!). This event is ideal for families with young children, educators, and caregivers who want to nurture confidence, self-love, and a love of reading.
About the Book
Perfectly Made is a heartwarming children’s book that celebrates the beauty of identity, family, and God’s love. Inspired by real conversations between a mother and her daughter, the story explores differences in skin color, hair texture, and family traits through a lens of joy and confidence. With rhyming verses and vibrant illustrations, young readers are reminded that every curl, every shade, every child is perfectly made.
The book also weaves in affirmations of faith, teaching children to embrace who they are with courage and pride. A touching celebration that empowers children to see themselves as fearfully and wonderfully made. Families of all shades will see themselves reflected in this story of love, uniqueness, and belonging.
About the Authors
Heather Paschal Binns is an educational leader, advocate, author, and mother who is passionate about helping children see the beauty in who they are. Inspired by her daughter, Carter, she wrote Perfectly Made to highlight the power of identity, faith, and family. Heather’s work in education and community service has always centered on equity, empowerment, and providing children with the tools they need to thrive.
Co-author Carter, a vibrant young girl with a love for stories and daily affirmations, brings her own voice and perspective to the book, making it a true mother-daughter creation. Together, Heather and Carter hope to inspire children—especially children of color—to embrace their curls, skin, and unique gifts with joy and confidence. When they are not writing, they enjoy family time, affirmations, and celebrating life.
