Stories We Carry Community Storytelling with the Lansdowne Library
About this Event
The stories we carry tell others of our history, our upbringing, our memories, and the lessons we’ve learned along the way. For centuries, oral history has existed as a way to pass down stories throughout generations before the written word. It is a way of preserving truths from firsthand accounts and explaining the origins of cultural traditions.
The 20*20 House Gallery will host a live, community-driven gathering where guests and friends can share true, personal stories from the storyteller’s life.
Guests can sign up on our sign in sheet, and when prompted, can tell a 5-minute story. These stories should feature real, personal experiences. Storytellers are encouraged to speak from memory and connection, and not from a paper or phone. A successful story needs a clear beginning, middle and a meaningful resolution.
About Stories We Carry:
Stories We Carry is an exhibition that showcases the memories, traditions, individuals, and institutions that shaped Lansdowne Borough into the community it is today.
Through artworks and artifacts spanning the past century, alongside interviews with current residents, visitors are invited to explore the rich history of Lansdowne.
From nostalgic scenes of family and childhood, to shining moments in the arts and theater, to courageous acts of civic service, Stories We Carry offers a captivating portrait of life in Lansdowne—and a beacon for a welcoming and inclusive future.
