Stonehaven Studios Expands 2nd Annual Afrofuturist Art Fair at The Colony Theatre
On Monday, June 15, Executive Director Bairton Brown will host the 2nd Annual Afrofuturist Art Fair with a free Industry Night Event at The Colony Theatre in Burbank from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event merges live music, visual artistry, theatre, gaming, dance, cinema, writing and social work into a single, curated experience grounded in expanding access to the arts, education, and public health resources.
Rather than functioning as a traditional networking mixer, this curated evening is structured as an active showcase for multigenerational, multicultural, and multidisciplinary artistry. Featured programming includes MURDERING JAZZ©, hosted by Burbank’s very own Shola Adewusi (MCU, Wonderman, Chewing Gum) and a live band, film screenings from Emmy-award winner Jean E.S. Powell (The Ms. Pat Show), as well as theatrical excerpts from local playwrights such as Dashawn Barnes (Monster, Shameless, This is Us). The event will also host interactive installations, raffles, and artist booths .
Other programming includes performances by Johnny Laveie and The 8th Wanderer, screenings of independent short films including CAPTAIN ZERO, EAT, and WOLFSLAYER. There will also be excerpts from the Distress Signals Project’s AFTER PASSAGE, and IN THE COURSE OF HUMAN EVENTS.
The event will also spotlight book series like BLACKTOPIA, Stonehaven Studios’ ongoing multimedia science-fiction series exploring cyberpunk philosophies, solarpunk aesthetics , and speculative liberation. Guests will have opportunities to meet creators Bairton Brown, Kyle Hinton, and Keimon Shook, alongside acclaimed author LaDarrion Williams’ BLOOD AT THE ROOT series. Set On A Hill Studios’ founder Ekaette Elizabeth Shamma will also present her VR movie poster for the BLACKTOPIA series.
