About this Event

'Stone Age Survival' day for home educated children, led by experienced outdoor practitioners.

This tailored day supports the Key Stage 2 Curriculum and is suitable for ages 7 - 12.

Step back in time to survive stone-age style. You'll need to apply your problem-solving abilites and creativity as you explore how to make the most of natural resources:

  • Construct survival shelters from natural materials
  • Practice firelighting techniques
  • Make a stone age tool and clay 'thumb pot'
  • Create some 'cave art'
  • Finish with a campfire


Learning Objectives

  • Explore how people in the Stone Age would have survived (including survival needs, still applicable today).
  • Find out about some of the rocks used during the Stone Age, including their properties and applications (e.g. flint, slate, clay, chalk – plus bone).
  • Explore the use of appropriate materials for a specified task and criteria (e.g. a waterproof shelter or pot, shaping tools, lighting a fire).
  • Collaborate with others in a group to solve a problem or make a decision.
  • Develop group working skills, e.g. negotiating, problem-solving, debating.
  • Evaluate their work, identifying strengths and areas for development.
  • Practice resilience to succeed in new challenges or develop existing skills.


Important details:

Time: 10am-3pm (with 30 minute lunch and 15 minute snack break)

Cost: £30 for first child (including parking).

£25 per additional child (select 'add-on' at check out).

Location: The Hive, Church Road, High Beach, Loughton, IG10 4AJ

* All children must be accompanied and supervised by a parent / carer throughout.
