A colorful lineup of historic Stearman biplanes will visit the Museum this summer during a new Stearman Fly-In, bringing dozens of these classic trainer aircraft to the flightline. Organizers expect between 40-50 aircraft, making it one of the largest gatherings of aircraft to visit the Museum.
Originally designed by Lloyd Stearman for the civilian market, the aircraft later became the military’s Kaydet primary trainer. Variants such as the PT-13, PT-17, and PT-18 helped train thousands of U.S. Army Air Forces pilots during World War II, introducing a generation of aviators to the fundamentals of military flight before they advanced to fighters and bombers.
Aircraft are scheduled to arrive early Friday, June 19, and depart afternoon on Sunday, June 21, and will be on static display behind Memorial Park.
As with any gathering of historic aircraft, arrival times, departures, and public viewing hours are subject to change due to weather or maintenance considerations.
