From mechanical engineer to founder: the product, the path, and what AI actually changed about writing software.
Overview
An hour with Zach Rachlin, founder of ingOutdoors, a pre-revenue startup in Golden building software for planning backcountry expeditions.
He opens with how he moved from mechanical engineering into software and then into founding a company, what he was glad he knew beforehand, and what he is still learning.
He then walks the room through the product live, with everyone following along on their own device.
The middle of the session is a discussion, in pairs and then open to the room, on the role of artificial intelligence in software development: what it has genuinely accelerated, where it has cost him time, and what that means for a student choosing a major now.
He closes with what working at a pre-revenue startup actually looks like day to day, including the data an engineer here would be working with, the roles currently open, and how to apply. Questions throughout, and he will stay afterwards for one-to-one conversations.
