About this Event

StartSpace Members Breakfast Club | September 2026

Enjoy a light breakfast, connect with the community and engage in good conversations with exceptional founders and future founders in Victoria.

We're excited to welcome Scotty Allen, Founder & CEO of The Product Bus, as our guest speaker for September's Breakfast Club.

Nobody Wants Your Features
Build around the change your customer wants, not the product you imagined.

Founders are good at spotting what could be better. The trap is jumping straight from “there’s a problem” to “here’s what I should build.” Scotty Allen shows you how to work backwards from the outcome your customer actually wants, then use evidence to decide what is worth building. Useful whether you’re still shaping an idea or already sitting on a product full of features and wondering where the customers are.

Who is it for?

Pre-revenue and early post-revenue founders who are still shaping an idea, building an MVP, or launched but not yet at a repeatable customer base.

What you'll leave with

  • Separate the problem, the outcome, and the solution.
  • Questions that uncover the outcome, not the feature.
  • Involve customers without just asking for features.
  • A framework for what stays, changes, or goes.

About the Speaker:

Scotty Allen is founder and CEO of The Product Bus, a Melbourne-based product strategy consultancy that helps founders and teams decide what to build, who it’s for, and whether there’s a commercial case for it.

His route into product was not conventional. He started as a primary school teacher, moved through educational leadership and digital transformation, then into EdTech and startup product leadership, working across early-stage products that failed and ones that scaled. One question stuck with him: how do we know something is worth building before pouring in more time, money, and features?

Today, through The Product Bus and Startup Compass, he helps founders, startup programs, and organisations replace assumptions with evidence, make better build decisions, and stay in charge of where their business goes next.
