The Stars & Stripes Community Flag Retirement Ceremony is another Oxford 150 signature event that blends patriotic tribute with interactive education to honor the Village's 150th anniversary and the Nation’s semiquincentennial.
The program features a "Walk of Flags" historical display and an interactive zone where families can engage in colonial games, visit the craft corner to make your own tricorne hat, or learn the "13 Folds" of the American flag. The event culminates in a respectful, formal retirement ritual for unserviceable flags, conducted with full honors by the American Legion Post #108, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Boy Scout Troop #108. Retirement ceremony starts at 1:30 with all other programming following afterwards.
This gathering emphasizes community strength by teaching the next generation the weight of history and the value of civic respect. Bring the whole family for a day of fun, history and community.
