Instructor: Donna LashofSkill Level: Beginner
During this one-day workshop, students will create one of a kind 12-point “Moravian Star” ornaments.
This is a 3-D project which has a long tradition. There are several forms of this star, and this one is characterized by an airy, open look with 12 points. It is suitable for anyone, ranging from confident beginners with no prior experience to experienced artists who wish to add another type of glass art to their repertoire. Most of the steps are familiar to anyone who has made a stained glass piece using the copper foil method and are simple for persons of all skill levels to perform. The hard part begins as you add a third dimension to the project where Donna's step-by-step guide, along with her personal advice and assistance, will help you create stars that will make you happy.
The class begins with an overview of safety while working with glass, an overview of the process to make a star, and several examples of finished products of various sizes and types of glass. You will receive an illustrated guide detailing each step of the process, which is yours to take home so you may create more stars at your leisure.
You will select the size of the star you wish to make and then choose from a wide variety of colors and textures of glass for each of the points. The end result will be a ready-to-hang piece(s) ranging from 7”-10” tall.
