The 13th Stagecraft conference for community theatre will be held at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts on September 19 and 20. Download a conference brochure from our website at www.communitytheatre.com.au
Held every two years in Sydney, and run by the Association of Community Theatre the conference for performers, creatives and administrators is sponsored by Marsh Insurance.
The keynote speaker is the legendary New Zealand actor singer Jay Laga’aia, who will speak on the importance of community theatre, and lead a dynamic four-hour acting workshop.
Other topics include a lighting design workshop, artificial Intelligence in set design, directing, make-up, English accents, story-telling through song, Shakespeare and heightened language and a musical theatre dance session.
Lecturers are a combination of NIDA staff, industry and community theatre experts.
ACT’s most popular seminar from 2024 returns – a masterclass in intimacy direction from Chloë Dallimore AM.
For administrators there are important seminars on Child Protection, copyright: with representatives of MTIA and Origin Theatrical, and tips on software that saves times when running a community theatre.
Legendary theatre makers Bob and Col Peet will reprise their demonstration on making props beautiful.
Actor and psychologist Simon Ward will offer practical tips to help build well-being from rehearsal to closing night.
Bob Peet OAM will delivery a key-note at ACT’s conference dinner on his life in theatre, at the same function enjoy entertainment and the inauguration of ACT’s new inductees into the Hall of Fame.
For members, conference registration for the entire weekend including dinner, two lunches and morning teas is $190 – with an early bird special by August 1 of $175 applies.
The early bird discount also applies to members taking out the one-day options to the conference, conference only and dinner only options.
Non-members of ACT are welcome to register for additional fees
