Workshop will focus on preparing the grape-growing community to monitor and manage the spotted lanternfly.
About this Event

This education event is offered by Henderson County Extension in partnership with NC State Extension and St. Paul Mountain Vineyard. This workshop is FREE and open to grape growers, vineyard managers, scouts assisting the grape industry, and Extension agents. The workshop will focus on monitoring SLF. Attendees will learn how to build monitoring traps as well as how to identify this invasive pest and its main host plant, tree of heaven. Trap building kits will be available for attendees.

1:15-2:00 Spotted Lanternfly (SLF) identification and monitoring: Dr. Lorena Lopez, Small Fruit Entomologist, NCSU

2:00-2:45 Tree of Heaven (TOH) identification and quick overview on building lampshade traps for adult monitoring: Dr. Kelly Oten, Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist, Forest Health, NCSU

2:45-3:00 BREAK

3:00-4:00 Hands-on lampshade trap building demonstration

4:00-4:30 Q&A Session

4:30-4:45 Closing Remarks
