From Viking villains and William Wallace to the Queen of Scots, Bonnie Prince Charlie and Rabbie Burns - meet them all in a story!

Join author and drama teacher Barbara Henderson for an hour-long whistle-stop-tour of historical adventure, featuring faces from Scotland's past in order of appearance.

Over the hour, you'll be immersed in historical adventure with dramatic readings from Barbara's books, interspersed with costumes, drama and games.

Barbara Henderson is the award-winning author of twelve books for young people, including the Historical Association’s Young Quills Award winning titles The Siege of Caerlaverock (Winner, 2020), The Chessmen Thief (Winner, 2021), and The Boy, the Witch and the Queen of Scots (Highly Commended, 2025). Her fiction, always inspired by historical events or wild landscapes, is widely studied in schools. Her recent books include To War with Wallace, about a boy caught up in the Wars of Scottish Independence, as well as the Victorian STEM adventure Rivet Boy and the Jacobite novel The Reluctant Rebel. Based in Inverness, with some of Scotland's most dramatic landscape on her doorstep, Barbara splits her time between writing and teaching Drama - but spreading the story-love in schools is what she loves best – her interactive events regularly take her across the country, and sometimes beyond. There is no parking at Abertarff House. There may be street parking on Church street as well as Rose street car park, which is a 5-minute walk from Abertarff House.

We recommend arriving a few minutes early to settle in before the stories begin!
