Discover the history of Madame Angelo, Matthew Rogerson and Stephenson Ridley, 3 local sporting heroes from the later 19th Century.
About this Event

Madame Angelo was a female pedestrian, born in Barnard Castle and died in Durham City – the ‘Only Female Long-Distance Walking Champion of the World’ as she called herself; Matthew Rogerson was a hero of Potshare Bowling in Fatfield, Portobello (and his own family); Stephenson Ridley (brother of Geordie) was the English Mile Champion for a spell.

Peter Welsh offers an illustrated talk about these three local heroes. Be prepared to be amazed, amused and proud.
