This is a one-day course tailored to indoor lead climbers. We show you how to transition your indoor sport climbing skills safely onto outdoor rock, how to return at the end of the day without leaving any gear behind, safe abseiling technique and retreating.Here is a rough outline of the topics we plan to cover:
Inspect fixed sport climbing hardware and anchors before you use them
Apply indoor lead-belay and lead-climbing techniques to outdoor rock
Setting and using sport climbing anchors
“Cleaning” a route - returning at the end of your session without leaving any of your equipment behind
Safe abseiling with a prusik backup
Retreating from a sport climb (mid-climb)
Recognise the most common sport climbing mistakes and easy methods to mitigate them
Make intelligent decisions in the outdoors.
You can expect all skills to be delivered using a demonstrate - practice - review method, with extra practice thrown in as necessary. If you have questions at any time do not hesitate to ask - you are here to learn and there is absolutely no such thing as a “stupid question”.
