This workshop introduces the foundational practices of Spontaneous Self, a comprehensive framework for dance improvisational study and performance. Open to all levels, the workshop guides dancers through solo, duet, and ensemble improvisational exercises and scores. You'll develop agency, creativity, and spontaneity while building skills for further practice and performance in dance improvisation.
Rooted in post-modern, contemporary, and somatic practices, Spontaneous Self develops the technical and compositional skills needed to create coherent, compelling performances with minimal predetermined structure. The approach values spontaneity, collaborative intelligence, somatic awareness, and compositional rigor—preparing artists to generate work that engages both performer and audience.
This workshop is suitable for those beginning to explore dance improvisation, as well as those experienced dancers looking for greater depth and connection within their practice.
