Spokane Valley Food Bank & Soup Kitchen Inaugurates New Community Hub to Fight Food Insecurity Ribbon cutting set for Saturday, October 25, 2025, 1–5 PM at 205 N University Rd, Suite 1

Spokane Valley, WA — October 12, 2025 — The Filipino American Northwest Association (FANA) announced the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Spokane Valley Food Bank & Soup Kitchen on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 1:00–5:00 PM at 205 N University Rd, Suite 1, Spokane Valley, WA 99206. Local officials, community partners, volunteers, and residents are invited to celebrate a new, community-powered response to rising food insecurity and recent benefit cutbacks impacting Washington families.

“No one should have to choose between rent, medicine, and a meal,” said Jacqueline Babol, founder of FANA. “This kitchen and pantry will serve hot, nutritious meals and provide culturally relevant groceries while connecting neighbors to health, housing, and employment resources. We’re inviting the whole community—and especially our city leaders—to see how collaboration can move the needle on hunger.”

• Program Highlights: Welcome remarks by community leaders, brief program on local food insecurity, facility tours, volunteer sign-ups, and light refreshments.
  

Attendees are encouraged to bring 10 cans of non-perishable food (e.g., beans, tuna, soup, rice, pasta, canned vegetables/fruit) and/or a new or gently used kitchen item we can use on site (e.g., commercial-grade utensils, cutting boards, sheet pans, stock pots, serving ladles, hot pads, food-safe storage containers). These donations will help us serve more neighbors immediately.

With household budgets stretched and emergency benefit programs scaled back, Spokane Valley families are facing higher demand for food support. The new Food Bank & Soup Kitchen will:

• Serve hot, balanced meals and distribute culturally familiar pantry items
  
• Coordinate with regional partners to expand capacity and reduce service gaps
  
• Offer low-barrier volunteer opportunities for individuals, faith groups, students, and local businesses
  
• Provide warm referrals to wraparound services (health, housing, and workforce)
  

To ensure no one is alone or hungry during the holidays, the Spokane Valley Food Bank & Soup Kitchen plans to serve community Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. Details and volunteer sign-ups will be announced at the inauguration and on our channels.

“Our goal is simple: dignity, nourishment, and connection,” added Babol. “We’re building a welcoming space where neighbors help neighbors.”

Local businesses, civic groups, and residents are invited to contribute through food drives, sponsorships, in-kind donations, or volunteer shifts. Organizations interested in partnership activations or corporate volunteer days are encouraged to reach out.
