Spirit Sound Walkers - Making Your Drum

The Mission of Spirit Sound Walkers is as follows:

As an Indigenous led gathering of hand drummers, we welcome all who come in the spirit of respect and caring. Through drum, song, and shared support, we create a space of belonginging where sacred traditions are honored and individual paths uplifted. Ideal as a family activity.

Registration: $15 history center members. $25 non-members. Family discount: $10 per person for 4 or more. Small children (8 and under) can participate with their siblings and parents free of charge. Some activities will be off site of the history center campus.This includes a 14 inch hand drum made of elk or bison hide, a drumstick and a ribbon skirt or shirt for performances. The group will meet once a month and perform in community events, take part in feasts, and experience traditional blessing ceremonies.

This is the first meeting of Spirit Sound Walkers.

Paid Registration includes:

14" drum and drumstick, includes cost of materials but participants must put their drums together.

• Ribbon shirt (men)
• Ribbon skirt (women)
• Meeting refreshments
• This can be a family activity

Spirit Sound Walkers will meet once per month in addition to performing at local events, and participating in feasts and ceremonies throughout the year.

March: Spirit Sound basic drumming: Native songs and their purpose.

April: Welcoming Spring Fest and celebration of EArth Day

May: Exploring inner reflection, spirit naming

June: Grandfather teaching

July: Parade and drujming for Oldham County Day

August: Performance at Corn Island Storytelling Festival

Septemeber: Sacred Medicines, making the medicine bundle

Octover: Blessing of the Ohio River

November: The Ancestor Feast

December: Performance at Light Up LaGrange
