Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary through creativity, community, and the traditions that make Brown County unique at the America 250 Plein Air at the Brown County Fair on Thursday, August 13.
This free community art event is hosted by the Aberdeen America 250 Committee and sponsored by the Dacotah Prairie Museum, Aberdeen Area Arts Council, South Dakota Arts Council, and the Brown County Fair.
Artists of all experience levels are invited to paint live throughout the Brown County Fairgrounds, beginning in Centennial Village. Adult artists will create original works inspired by America 250 while incorporating at least one recognizable element of the fairgrounds. Youth artists (ages 8–17) will explore the theme “The Future of America,” imagining what our nation might look like over the next 250 years.
Throughout the day, fair visitors are encouraged to stroll the fairgrounds, watch artists at work, visit with participants, and vote for the People’s Choice Award. Following judging, the artwork will remain on display for the remainder of the Brown County Fair, showcasing the creativity of local and regional artists while celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. Selected artwork will also be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting future arts and cultural programming.
Whether you’re an accomplished painter, a beginning artist, or simply enjoy seeing creativity unfold, this event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate our nation’s history, the spirit of the Brown County Fair, and the beauty of South Dakota through art.
