About the Artist
My artistic practice is rooted in a lifelong love of storytelling, beginning in the libraries of South Central Los Angeles where I first discovered the power of history and visual culture. This foundation deepened during my decade as a librarian assistant at the African American Archives in Oakland, where preserving the ephemera of Black pioneers—from Captain William Shorey to Pullman Porters—taught me that every object holds a narrative.
Today, I channel this reverence for history into mixed media textile art. Intrigued by the visual vocabulary of fabrics across cultures, I combine recycled materials and found fragments to create wearable art and standalone pieces. My process is alchemical: I employ botanical dyeing to capture the complex, transient colors of nature, transforming organic matter into lasting beauty.
For me, making art is a spiritual coalescence of fun, whimsy, and flow. By merging the natural world with recycled bits of the material world, I invite viewers to explore the connection between past and present, texture and theme, in a new visual language.
