About this Event

Join us on Thursday, October 23rd, at 6:00 PM PDT for a special evening at Leica Store San Francisco!
We’re thrilled to host a special photobook event with Lisbon-based photography artist Teresa Freitas, celebrating the release of her latest work, Flower(s) — Vol. 1 , published by Four Eyes Editions. This inaugural volume in her new series explores the safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) in Japan’s Yamagata Prefecture, a region renowned for its rich history in textile dyeing and beauty rituals. Through a blend of documentary and poetic photography, Freitas delves into the cultural significance of the safflower, capturing its vibrant presence and the stories of those who cultivate it.
The evening will include a presentation by Teresa Freitas, offering insights into her creative process and the inspiration behind Flower(s) — Vol. 1. Guests will have the opportunity to view the book and its editions, engage in a Q&A session. This event is a unique opportunity to connect with the artist and immerse yourself in her exploration of color, culture, and nature.
Don't miss this chance to experience the world through Teresa Freitas’s lens. We look forward to seeing you there!
* RSVP is required, seating will be available on a first come first serve basis. Conversation will begin at 6:30 PM, and will be followed a book signing with Teresa Freitas.

(b. 1990, Lisbon) is a Portuguese photographer celebrated for her pastel-hued, cinematic approach to color. Raised in the seaside village of Cascais, she was immersed in creativity from an early age. After earning a BA in Multimedia Art (2013) and an MA in Design & New Media (2015) from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, Freitas gradually turned her focus toward photography, discovering in it a visual language that felt distinctly her own.
Her work is defined by a painterly use of color, transforming everyday scenes into dreamlike narratives that feel at once familiar and subtly surreal. Freitas describes photography as her “voice” and color as her “language,” weaving soft palettes and careful tonal balance into images that evoke calm, wonder, and quiet intensity. This signature vision has led to collaborations with major international brands including Dior, Netflix, Pantone, Adobe, Polaroid, Porsche, and Chloé, alongside cultural projects for museums and institutions.
Beyond her commissioned work, Freitas has exhibited internationally in cities such as San Francisco, Porto, Venice, Lisbon, Stockholm, Provence, and Seoul. Her debut monograph, Flower(s) vol. 1, was released this month, marking a significant milestone in her ongoing exploration of color and contemporary photography.
