PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: “Florida Monarch Butterflies”The Monarch is probably the most recognizable and talked about butterfly. Gardening for Monarch butterflies in South Florida is unique compared to other regions of Florida and the U.S. because our Monarchs are both residents and migratory. Teri will discuss recent studies about Monarchs, Monarch migration, OE parasite and milkweed, and how to establish and maintain a garden that supports Monarch butterflies — all year.
SPEAKER BIO: Teri Jabour has been active with the Atala Chapter of the North American Butterfly Association (NABA) since its inception in 1995 and serves as Florida’s Regional Editor for the citizen science project, NABA’s annual 4th of July Butterfly Count. As a Master Gardener Volunteer with UF/IFAS Extension Service/Palm Beach County since 1996 (29 years!), she has the unique opportunity to continue learning about horticulture and sustainable practices that enhance and protect South Florida’s natural resources. Teri is also a long-time member of the Palm Beach County/Florida Native Plant Society. She gained practical experience with South Florida’s complex environment while working at The Nature Conservancy’s Blowing Rocks Preserve and City of West Palm Beach’s Grassy Waters Preserve. Teri currently serves on the Friends Board of Directors at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park.
