PERFORMER BIOS:
Brenda Bernard (vocals)
Brenda Bernard began her musical journey at a young age, studying under Barbara Streisand's music teacher in Brooklyn, NY. Her early success in talent shows and local bands paved the way for her professional recording career, resulting in three singles. In 1982, she signed with Wave Records and released her debut single, "My Heart’s Not In It." Four years later, in 1986, she appeared on Sinnamon's single "Say It Again," produced by Darryl Payne on Spring Records. She also contributed to Chaz Jankel's first album with the track "You’re My Occupation."
Throughout the 1980s, Brenda toured with the iconic NYC girl group, The Crystals. For over thirty years, she has captivated audiences with her powerful and sultry voice, performing at clubs and venues throughout the Tri-State area. Brenda continues to bring elegance and excitement to the stage, leaving a lasting impression wherever she performs.
Jamila Smith (vocals)
A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Jamila Smith began singing at age 14, winning state and national competitions and earning Supreme Honors. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Western Michigan University.
In 2005, Jamila became one of the featured singers with the legendary 5th Dimension. She also starred as the lead in Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida in Los Angeles and made her symphonic debut in 2010 with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra.
Jamila has headlined in the cruise industry for over 16 years, dazzling audiences from Stockholm to Singapore with her powerful performances. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her gift of song worldwide.
Edlene Hart (vocals & producer)
Edlene Hart began singing on stage at age 5 in church and launched her professional career in 1987. She studied under an incredible musician who was the musical director for Stephanie Mills, Whitney Houston, Peggi Blue, and many others.
Throughout her career, Edlene has shared the stage and recorded with renowned artists including Whitney Houston, Erykah Badu, Isaac Hayes, The Delphonics, and Melba Moore, and has opened for the legendary Tony Bennett. She has toured extensively, performing gospel throughout Europe and South Africa.
Edlene is also an accomplished songwriter and producer. She worked with iconic rapper Chuck D’s female artists, Total Look and The Style, in the 1990s, and briefly collaborated with Grammy-winning musician Lenny White, which led to commercial jingle work for brands such as Folgers Coffee, McDonald’s, and New Jersey Community Bank.
In 2010, Edlene recorded her debut CD with the F&G Blues Band, Grease Up Your Strut. After moving to Florida ten years ago, she has performed jazz, blues, and R&B across the state and toured with the late blues legend Joey Gilmore, contributing two songs to his CD Respect The Blues.
Edlene is a founding member of Soultastic, a soulful female group performing tributes to legendary female soul artists of the 1970s and 1980s. Their debut show, Jump For My Love: A Tribute to the Iconic Pointer Sisters, has been met with great acclaim.
Al West (bass)
Al West began playing electric bass shortly after joining the U.S. Navy in 1977. After his service, he played in several local bands in the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area, covering genres including rock, Latin, jazz, and R&B.
He was a member of the Latin-funk-rock-jazz band Playeros and the bassist for regional powerhouse soul/R&B group Pocket Change.
Mitch Goldstein (keyboards)
Mitch Goldstein started playing professionally at age 15 in his hometown of Springfield, Massachusetts. He attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the Berklee College of Music.
