Mae siarad a gwrando yn sail i ysgrifennu effeithiol. Cyn i ddysgwyr allu ysgrifennu'n hyderus, mae angen iddynt gael cyfleoedd i ddatblygu, trefnu a mireinio eu syniadau drwy siarad, archwilio geirfa newydd ac ymarfer iaith mewn cyd-destun ystyrlon.

Overview

Oracy is the foundation of effective writing. Before learners can write with confidence and control, they need opportunities to develop, organise and refine their ideas through talk, explore new vocabulary and rehearse language in meaningful contexts.

Join us for an engaging and practical professional learning event that explores how spoken language can act as a bridge between thinking and writing. We will examine how high-quality classroom dialogue, structured talk routines and purposeful discussion can support learners in generating ideas, developing language and preparing for successful writing.

Together we will explore how effective modelling, dialogic teaching and strategic questioning can strengthen learners' oral language and improve the quality of their written outcomes. The session will provide practical, evidence-informed approaches that can be applied immediately to support all learners, including those with ALN and EAL, to become confident communicators and increasingly successful writers.

Target Audience

· Primary School Teachers, Early Secondary School Teachers and LLC Leads.

Session Aims

· Design learning sequences where talk is a deliberate phase of the writing process, enabling pupils to rehearse ideas, language and text structures before writing

· Explicitly model and scaffold spoken language, including vocabulary, sentence structures and oral rehearsal, to support pupils' composition and transcription

· Use dialogic teaching, structured talk routines and purposeful questioning to extend pupils' ideas and shape content prior to writing

· Create authentic contexts for speaking and writing, ensuring talk supports meaningful and purposeful written outcomes

· Use talk effectively as a form of formative assessment to identify misconceptions and develop pupils' thinking before writing

· Implement inclusive strategies that enable all learners, including those with ALN and EAL, to access writing through structured talk and supported language development

· Embed a consistent approach where spoken language directly informs improved sentence construction, vocabulary choice and organisation in writing
