Sound Bath Meditation for Women: Focusing a Busy Mind
About this Event
Class facilitators: Tara Marshall, RCC, and Sarah DiFederico, RSW, two therapists dedicated to supporting women's mental health and well-being.
All women are welcome to participate in this sound bath.
It will be especially a fit for women who persistently experience mind and body-related divergence, leading to difficulty focusing their minds and regulating their bodies.
Some examples:
- “Brain fog” (Persistent trouble focusing, usually leading to negative consequences)
- ADHD or related neurodivergence in the brain’s executive functioning
- Hormonal dysregulation (Eg: pregnancy, perimenopause, other)
- Nervous system dysregulation (living in prolonged “hypo” or “hyper’ aroused states)
- Experiencing ongoing distress in one or more environmental contexts causing difficulty with executive functioning
- Feeling persistently tense, bracing for something bad to happen, and feeling incapable of quieting your mind
- Experiencing chronic body pain making it difficult to focus on day-to-day tasks
Being mindful and staying still during meditation isn't automatic or easy for everyone. We give you permission to adjust your body as much as you want, or to open your eyes and engage with the sensory experience if that helps you focus and regulate your body. We want you to have agency over your experience so you can maximize its benefits.
We have selected evidence-based meditation techniques that support focus, nervous system regulation, and neuroplasticity. The facilitators will guide you through exercises that include focus techniques and body regulation, while leaving plenty of time for free flow, letting your mind and body go where they may as you bathe in the sound.
We will provide a novel sensory experience for women who may need to wiggle, fidget, or engage with visuals to regulate their minds and bodies, all while listening to the beautiful sound frequencies of the singing bowls.
Participants can access fidget toys, enjoy a therapeutic diffuser scent, snuggle into their personal space, and gaze at galaxy projections, candles, and customized ceiling projections tailored to the night's theme.
What to bring: Please bring a yoga mat, pillow, blanket, or anything else that helps you feel comfortable.
What to expect: A room of women coming together to simply be. No meditation or sound-bath experience necessary.
How to get to the studio: Kindred Counselling is located at the Enterprise Centre at 301-3701 Hastings St, Burnaby. A set of stairs is to the left of Anytime Fitness (about 10 meters). You will see a sign for Kindred Counselling just before the stairs. After the stairs, the first door on your left leads to the lobby.
We look forward to welcoming you!
