A legendary band. Timeless songs. Generations of memories.

Team YEG proudly presents an evening with Souls in Edmonton, Alberta—a celebration of music, memories, and the enduring spirit of Bangladeshi band culture. Gather your friends and family for a special live concert honouring a musical journey that has connected generations.

About Souls: A Pioneering Bangladeshi Band

With roots in Chattogram, Bangladesh, Souls began its journey in 1972 under the name Surela, adopting the name Souls in 1973. From those early beginnings, the group grew into one of the pioneering names in Bangladesh’s band-music movement, helping introduce audiences to a distinctive blend of Bengali songwriting and contemporary band arrangements.

The band’s debut album, Super Souls, became an important early milestone in Bangladeshi band music. Songs such as Mon Shudhu Mon Chhuyechhe and Mukhorito Jiboner Cholar Pothe helped establish a musical identity that listeners carried from one generation to the next. Their catalogue continued to grow through albums including College Er Corridore, E Emon Porichoy, and Aaj Din Katuk Gaane.

Souls’ history also brings together several influential figures in Bangladeshi music, including Tapan Chowdhury, Naquib Khan, Ayub Bachchu, and Naseem Ali Khan, who contributed to the band during different periods. Although its membership has evolved, Souls has maintained its connection with audiences through recordings, live performances, and anniversary celebrations at home and abroad.

Frontman: Partha Barua

Souls is currently fronted by Partha Barua, the band’s vocalist, guitarist, and a central creative force. His expressive singing, guitar playing, and songwriting have helped carry Souls into its modern era. Having spent more than three decades with the band, he remains closely associated with its sound and musical direction.

One of his defining performances is Keno Ei Nishshongota, a song that helped establish his popularity as a Souls vocalist during the 1990s and remains closely associated with his voice.

Famous Songs and Fan Favourites

Souls’ celebrated repertoire includes:

  • Mon Shudhu Mon Chhuyechhe — an enduring favourite from the band’s early years.
  • Ei Mukhorito Jiboner Cholar Pothe — a signature classic that has connected generations of listeners.
  • College Er Corridore — a memorable song from the band’s early catalogue and the title of its second album.
  • E Emon Porichoy — the title track of the band’s 1993 album, revisited in a new unplugged release in 2026.
  • Keno Ei Nishshongota — one of the best-known songs associated with Partha Barua’s era of Souls.
  • Tore Putuler Moto Kore Shajiye — an early Souls recording that forms part of the band’s musical legacy.

These are highlights from the band’s repertoire, not a confirmed Edmonton concert setlist.
