River Valley Sound is your chance to enjoy intimate performances by some of Edmonton's most beloved singer-songwriters, hosted in one of Edmonton's oldest homes-turned-café. Come sit by the fire, enjoy a wonderful beverage and food pairing while hearing music performed up close. The evening includes a question and answer period with the artist, where the audience has the chance to get to know the performer on a personal level.
In September , Little Brick welcomes Joe Nolan, the Sturgeon County singer-songwriter hailed by The Globe and Mail as “an Americana wunderkind to watch out for.” A virtuoso guitarist, elusive poet, and musical chameleon, Nolan pairs raw, arresting performances with songs that are fragile and fractured one moment and steeped in the grit of Delta blues the next.
Raised along the North Saskatchewan River in rural Alberta, Nolan has always lived somewhere on the outskirts, musically and otherwise. His songs draw deeply from life on the road, exploring the human condition with a restless curiosity and a storyteller’s eye for the details others might miss.
A Canadian Folk Music Award nominee, Nolan performs around 150 shows a year across North America and Europe, usually accompanied by his trusty parlour guitar and a well travelled 2003 Dodge Caravan named Rocco. Onstage, his weathered voice, sharp wit, and undeniable presence make a solo performance feel anything but small.
