Songwriting Workshop: Making Roots and Blues your own with Suzie Vinnick
About this Event
Join roots & blues artist Suzie Vinnick - a Canadian Folk Music Award winner, three-time Juno nominated and 12-times Maple Blues award recipient, for an interactive workshop to discover her personal approach to songwriting. Focus on practical ways to develop songs from initial ideas into finished pieces, and learn how her songs evolve overtime. Suzie will explore object writing, a method to generate ideas and language, and share how she collects and organizes fragments in her ongoing “songwriting snippets” file. The workshop also looks at how blues song structures can be used as a foundation for original songwriting and shaped into more personal work. Participants will leave with practical writing exercises and approaches for moving from fragments to finished song ideas.
This workshop is part of 7 workshops series (can attend all or select) with the Rocky Mountain Listening Room for the headlining artists who are performing the following evening. Workshop Season passes are available, 7 workshops for the price of 6.
Workshops take place at Dalhousie Community Hall, and concerts (additional ticked needed) take place at Rosedale Community Hall.
