Unspoken Conversations is a monthly empowerment series created for women to openly discuss the topics that are often left unsaid — from body image and mental wellness to online safety, college preparation, and creative expression.


🎙 August 2026 Featured Session

As the designated National Hair Loss Awareness Month, August 1 to August 31, this annual observance helps raise awareness, reduce stigma around hair thinning and hair loss, educate the public on normal shedding versus excessive loss, and highlight medical, genetic, and lifestyle factors that may contribute to hair loss.

In recognition of this important awareness month, Ladies in the Family Foundation invites you to an educational online session:

Understanding Hair Loss in Black Hair

Hair loss can be a deeply personal and emotional experience, especially in Black communities where hair is closely connected to identity, confidence, culture, and self-expression.

This session will feature Dr. Folake Pepple, a family physician in Calgary with a special interest in dermatology, aesthetic medicine, skin and hair health.

Participants will learn about:

  • Common causes of hair loss in Black hair
  • The difference types of hair loss- like hair shedding, thinning
  • Scalp and hair conditions that may require medical attention
  • Prevention and management strategies
  • When and how to seek professional support

This session is open to anyone experiencing hair loss, supporting a loved one, caring for children or teens, or wanting to better understand Black hair and scalp health.

Hosted by Ladies in the Family Foundation (LIFF), this safe and engaging space brings together community leaders, professionals, and mentors to educate, empower, and inspire.
