About this Event

Songs In The Round returns to Crown & Press on July 16th—an intimate, Bluebird-inspired evening where three artists trade original songs and stories. The audience sits close on all sides, watching the musical conversation unfold in real time and becoming part of the exchange through reactions, laughs, and the odd gut-punch.

This month features:

Frank Fiction (Elias Dummer) — Alt-Americana / Hamilton

The regular host of Songs In The Round, Frank Fiction is the new project from Juno Award–winning songwriter Elias Dummer (frontman of The City Harmonic). Performing unreleased alt-folk songs and a few sideways covers, he draws from two decades of quietly crafted material.
His writing leans into vulnerability and a crooked smile, echoing Jason Isbell, Rufus Wainwright, Andy Shauf, and John Prine. With 100M+ streams and multiple Billboard-charting singles behind him, this project steps into something looser, grounded, and deeply human.

Mike McKenna Jr.

Mike McKenna Jr. is a Cape Breton singer-songwriter whose 2020 album At the Edge of the World won Rising Star Recording of the Year at the 2021 East Coast Music Awards. Born in Glace Bay and raised along the Mira River, he writes indie folk and Americana rooted in narrative, true stories, and the folklore of working-class life in the North Atlantic. The record also earned a Contemporary Album of the Year nomination at the Canadian Folk Music Awards, and his songs have appeared on Spotify's Renegade Folk and Contemporary Folk playlists.

Bernadette Connors

Bernadette Connors is a Hamilton-based singer-songwriter working in Canadiana, folk, and rock. Her 2021 full-length album Monarch was produced by John-Angus MacDonald of The Trews and features some of Canada's top musicians, drawing on small-town Ontario, community, and everyday resilience. She grew up in her family's music store in Georgina, Ontario, and her work now extends beyond performing: she is a voice coach, mentor, and festival founder focused on creating opportunities for emerging artists.

What is Songs In The Round?

Born from Frank’s decade in Nashville and the ethos of the Bluebird Café, Songs In The Round is a stripped-back concert where three artists share the stage at once—taking turns sharing original songs (or songs they wish they'd written!), responding to each other, and letting their songs breathe.

These nights tend to sell out. If you want a seat in the room, don’t wait.
