Sommelier Smackdown | A Unique 5-Course Wine Dinner Event

Somm Smackdown brings together Master Sommeliers for a one-of-a-kind, five-course wine pairing competition, putting some of the industry’s most accomplished wine professionals head-to-head.

For each course, two Master Sommeliers select the wine they believe creates the ultimate pairing. Guests taste both selections side by side, compare the pairings, and cast their vote. No judges. No predetermined winner. The guests decide who advances.

The competition begins with two Round One matchups—one at Hotel Carmichael in Carmel, Indiana, and another at The National in Oklahoma City. Those winners advance to Round Two at Hotel Vin Rogers in Rogers, Arkansas, where they’ll battle for the final spot in the championship.

Waiting for them in Grapevine: reigning Somm Smackdown Champion and Master Sommelier Jack Mason.

On Friday, October 30, the winner of the bracket will arrive at Hotel Vin Grapevine to take on Jack in the Championship Round. After fighting their way through the competition, they’ll have one final challenge: unseat the reigning champion and claim the Somm Smackdown title.

Throughout the evening, guests will experience an exclusive five-course menu, with both Master Sommeliers selecting a wine for each course. Taste the competing pairings side by side, cast your vote, and ultimately decide whether a new champion will be crowned—or Jack Mason will defend his title.

*The event begins at 6:30 pm in the 4th-floor foyer for a reception with wine & passed hors d’oeuvres. The Smackdown will begin promptly at 7 pm.
