Join us for a special Before the Beach morning with Shannon Garvey, whose captivating debut novel, June Baby, has become one of the standout beach reads of the season.
Set amid the golden dunes, salt air, and quiet beauty of Block Island, June Baby follows Ruth, a young woman whose search for home, family, and belonging unfolds over a series of unforgettable summers. Tender, hopeful, and deeply moving, the novel explores love, loss, resilience, and the possibility of rewriting your own story.
Shannon's connection to New England's coastal communities shines through every page. She researched June Baby while working on Block Island and waiting tables in tourist towns, bringing an authenticity that readers have embraced. She earned her MFA from the University of New Hampshire, where she also taught creative writing, and her short fiction has appeared in The Saturday Evening Post. She now lives on New Hampshire's rocky seacoast.
Our Before the Beach series has become one of the joys of summer in Perkins Cove...a relaxed, intimate morning where readers gather on our front porch to enjoy conversation with remarkable authors before heading off to the beach or exploring Ogunquit.
Following the discussion, Shannon will sign copies of June Baby, and guests will have the opportunity to meet her at our signing counter.
