Somatic Arts Series

This Fall at Muse, you are invited to honour your inner landscape, tap into the wisdom of your body, and harvest resources for inspired living.
This dance-based expressive arts work embraces the sacred nature of intuitive movement, and connects writing and drawing to empower your personal process. Grounded in the Tamalpa Institute’s Life/Art approach, we will reflect, play, deepen, manifest and share - exercising body, mind and imagination in a supportive group setting.
Classes will begin with an arrival circle and move into a guided somatic tune-in and physical warm-up, specific improvisation exercises, free dance segments, prompted poetic writing, pastel drawing, and dialogue in small or larger groups. Specific themes will guide each week’s class to settle into the season: introduction to the work, experiential anatomical elements, going inside, isolation vs. connection, synthesizing the harvest, portal of imagination, and light vs. shadow.
No dance or art experience is necessary (there will be no set exercises or steps to learn), and participants are encouraged to adapt the work to their own comfort and safety level as needed.
All welcome ages 19-119!
Tuesdays, 9:30 - 11:00AM, Sept 22 - Oct 27.

About the facilitator:
Heather is an ISMETA registered somatic movement educator, a graduate of the Tamalpa Institute’s Teacher Training program, and an expressive arts practitioner with 25 years of international dance and teaching experience. She believes deeply in the innate physical wisdom and creative capacity of every individual, and in movement and the arts as a means to self-discovery, healing and embodied connection.
As a professional dancer Heather performed with Alberta Ballet, Boston Ballet and Netherlands Dance Theatre, working with leading choreographers and touring around the world. She has guest taught and choreographed at universities and arts organizations internationally, and recently directed and led Ballet BC’s Outreach and Education program in various communities around the province. It was encountering the intermodal/therapeutic approach of Anna and Daria Halprin, however, that brought Heather’s dance work together with her interests in wellness, community and mysticism, and introduced her to tools for better sharing the magic of movement.
Heather’s somatic arts work includes workshop facilitation, 1-on-1 coaching, corporate events, and work with children and seniors. She is grateful to now reside on the magnificent traditional territories of the Lekwungen-speaking and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples with her partner and daughter, and is delighted to connect her work with the inspiring and authentic MUSE community! https://www.heathermyers.ca/
